Please read below to learn how our bartering system works.

An Organized Barter Exchange

By joining Barter Systems, you will be part of one of the oldest barter exchanges in America. BSI and our staff of experienced trade brokers will help you make connections with some of our thousands of business owners so you can earn trade dollars. And then when it comes time to use your trade dollars, BSI can help you locate merchandise and services that you want and need.

Listing your business in our Members Directory

After you join Barter Systems, you will be added to our member directory. You can be listed in ALL of the more than 700 business categories that pertain to your business. This will help all or our trade brokers and members find you.

Access to our Members only sections for Networking

We are continuing to enhance our Members Only sections to make it easier to know what is happening and planned within our exchange. This is so you may get increased interest in your products and services, as well as locating what BSI members offer what you are in need of. Specifically you will have access to:

Members Directory
You will be able to search for BSI members by Business Name (or partial name), City, Zip, Phone, and/or Category see partial list of Categories

Calendar of Events
BSI holds quarterly networking events and a yearly holiday gift show, where you can meet some of our members in person. You will be able to access the details online.

Interactive Bulletin Board and Classifieds
Post and read messages between members! General subjects include Barter Items Wanted, Items Being Offered, BSI experiences, Suggestions, and General Barter Chat.

Digital Gallery
Here you will find PHOTOS, descriptions and prices of some available items.

Access to our Members only sections for Accounting
Members have access to an additional section for the following purposes:

Account Information

This screen will allow you to see a summary and more details of the trade sales and purchases you have made during the current month and year. You can also see your current balance, similar to a savings account.

Online Trade Authorization
When you sell something, you will have the ability to enter a transaction into our system. This will allow you to charge your buyer for the purchase so that trade dollars will leave the buyer's account and go into your account; you will have additional trade dollars to make purchases.

Additional Info

BSI Membership Card
Members will receive a membership card that will allow you to make purchases, similar to using a credit or debit card.

Accounting
Members receive monthly statements that detail the monthly transactions and your current trade balance, similar to a monthly checking account statement.

IRS Compliance
Bartering is a taxable activity. Making eligible business purchases through barter is taxdeductible. BSI provides IRS-compliant 1099 forms.

Ethics
BSI adheres to international bartering guidelines. If you feel any of our members may not be trading ethically, please report them immediately to BSI.

Success Stories and References
Maybe bartering sounds like something you may want to try, but want to hear more? Why not read some of our success stories. Or feel free to call a few of our References.

Your BSI Trade Broker
You will be assigned a BSI trade broker when you become a member. Your broker's role is to help you find and facilitate trades (sales and purchases). You and your broker should stay in frequent contact. Keep your broker aware to promote you when you are looking for more trade business. Ask your broker to suggest what members may be best able to fill your needs when you are looking for products and services.

Mailers
BSI can send your postcards, letters and flyers out to our members for a nominal fee. This can be a good way to let your members know more about you.

Free Weekly Newsletters
Our newsletter primarily includes products, services and special promotions our members are currently offering. Each Friday, we email or fax our weekly newsletter to our members. You may submit newsletter ads to your broker or simply call and ask your trade broker to include you when you want to encourage business.
